Each year at the center of Waimea town (just before the intersection of Kawaihae Road and Mamalahoa Highway) a community mural adorns an unoccupied building for the enjoyment of all who pass through. Parker School students have made it their responsibility to give back to the community through their artistic talents.

The latest edition of Parker School’s Community Mural, titled “The Earth is What We all Have in Common” reflects the necessity for our conscious effort to care for the environment.

The concept for this mural, designed by senior Jeannine Hoy was to start with the familiar ‘recycle, reuse’ idea and take it to the next level by illustrating solar, wind, and other sustainable green technologies.

Students from Parker’s Middle and Upper School art classes as well as creative writing classes made the mural a multi-discipline display by incorporating personal sentiments reflecting on the Earth Day theme through words and poetry.
