DUI stats for the week of April 27 – May 3

During the week of April 27, 2010, through May 3, 2010, Big Island police arrested 27 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 526 DUI arrests compared with 460 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 464 major accidents so far this year compared with 568 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.3 percent.

So far this year, there were 10 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with five during the same period last year, an increase of 100 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
