A 58-year-old Kona man has been charged with three offenses in connection with the double stabbing in Kona on Saturday night (April 24).

At 2 p.m. Monday (April 26), detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section charged Emmanuel Niihau Jr. of Kailua-Kona with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and first-degree terroristic threatening.

His bail was set at $35,000. He remains in custody at the Kona police cellblock pending his initial court appearance.

Niihau also goes by the name Bob Niihau.

A Kona man is in police custody in connection with a double stabbing in Kona on Saturday night (April 24).

Police responded to a 7:41 call reporting the stabbing at Kahalu’u Beach Park. A 41-year-old Kailua-Kona woman and a 51-year-old Kailua-Kona man had been with friends in a pavilion in the park when an argument ensued. During the argument, the woman was stabbed in the back. When the man went to her aid, he was stabbed in the right side. The man with the knife fled the scene.

Both victims were taken to Kona Community Hospital. The male victim was treated for his wound and released. The female victim remains at the hospital in guarded condition.

At 8:30 p.m., police located the 58-year-old suspect in an abandoned stone church across from the park and arrested him. Emmanuel Niihau Jr. of Kailua-Kona, who also goes by the name Bob Niihau, is being held at the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
