The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Awards $20,000 to Hospice of Hilo for Bereavement Program Support

Hilo, HI – Hospice of Hilo received a grant award of $20,000 from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation to offset the rising cost of providing bereavement programs as a free community service throughout East Hawai’i.

Hospice of Hilo is a non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization which exists to provide compassionate, holistic, palliative care to terminally ill patients and their families throughout the entire area of East Hawai’i. In addition, Hospice of Hilo is committed to providing the community-at-large with bereavement support and grief counseling. With support from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation and other philanthropic leaders like them, Hospice of Hilo is empowered to provide hope, comfort, dignity and peace of mind for those who are faced with the end of life, whether it be their own life or the life of someone they love.

After 25 years of continued service from Laupahoehoe to South Point, Hospice of Hilo strives to provide comprehensive bereavement support for anyone who needs it. Bereavement groups are offered weekly to teach about the grief process and help facilitate healing. Attendance continues to grow for the annual weekend grief camp as well as the newly added day camps available for children, teens and their families. Hospice of Hilo offers an extensive Lending Library of books, pamphlets and other materials related to grief and loss, free referrals to other community agencies as needed, educational presentations on grief-related topics available throughout East Hawaii, and a quarterly Memorial Service that honors all of the patients under hospice care.

Hospice of Hilo is extremely grateful for this gift and invites anyone suffering from grief to take advantage of the services it provides.
