Development of Kona on meeting agenda (April 8)

When and where: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, April 8, at Kealakehe High School Library

The FUTURE OF DEVELOPMENT IN KONA:

The program will include three parts:

* Exploring Kona’s Development Future through GIS Mapping Systems, Karen Kemp PhD, GIS researcher and educator, will speak about what Kona will look like at “build out”, how to find and use GIS maps on the internet, including maps of endangered species, cultural sites, zoning uses , approved subdivisions and to see today’s land uses.

* Bill Walsh, PhD, Aquatics Biologist, Division of Aquatic Resources DLNR will speak about Land Misuse and the Health of our Coral Reefs- A North Kohala Case study, how development affects the reef and the health of the ocean and fishing and what caused problems in North Kohala.

* The Economic Benefits of Land Conservation and Land Fund Legislative Update will be the topic for Debbie Hecht, 2% for the Land Fund Campaign Coordinator.

There will be a question and answer period after each part of the program.
