In Celebration of Bike Month, The Hawaii Safe Routes to School Hui announces a “Make it Safe for Me” to ride my bike or walk to school poster contest open to public, private, or home-schooled kindergarten through twelfth grade students.

The contest seeks to highlight the changes that need to take place for youth to be able to ride their bike or walk in their neighborhoods safety. Students are encouraged to imagine what it would be like to ride their bike or walk to school, the store, to their friend’s home, etc. – and then depict what would that look like in crayon, pen and ink, paint or colored marking pens.

Twelve prizes will be awarded, with 1st and 2nd prizes in the following categories: K-1; 2-3; 4-6; 7-9; 10-12, along with a grand prize and an honorable mention.

There are many awards including a Jamba Juice smoothie party for the grand prizewinner’s classroom and Jamba Juice smoothies for a year. Other prizes include gift baskets with certificates for a week of Jamba Juice smoothies, bike bags, bike lights, water bottles, helmets, and so much more. The winning posters will be featured on the hui’s Web site and on a special edition Safe Routes to School 2011 calendar.
