DUI stats for the week of March 22-28

During the week of March 22, 2010, through March 28, 2010, Big Island police arrested 30 motorists for drunk driving. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash.

So far this year, there have been 381 DUI arrests compared with 309 during the same period last year, an increase of 23.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 326 major accidents so far this year compared with 411 during the same period last year, a decrease of 20.7 percent.

So far this year, there were eight traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with five during the same period last year, an increase of 60 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
