The air was filled with electricity long before the first serve of the game between the Rusty Wahine and Rainbow Wahine. Talk in the crowd was “Who’s gonna win? The current Rainbow Wahine or the team from the past?”

By the time the game started it was standing room only. Even with the Men’s AA Championship match on the second court, most of the fans were here for only one reason and that was to see the Women’s AA match between the two Wahine teams, comprised of current and former Rainbows.

In the first game, the Rusty Wahine team came out strong with a tough backcourt defense and solid play at the net. It was an epic battle between the two teams that ended in favor of the veteran Manoa team.

However, in the second game, youth was served with the younger Wahine team running away with the score sending the match to a deciding third game.

After giving up the first point, the younger Bows pretty much controlled the final game, winning it by a seven-point margin, 15-8, and taking the 2010 Women’s AA Championship.

The Wahine shoot-out was a highlight of the the Haili Volleyball Tournament, which is held every March during spring break, but the tourney also boasts a host mens womens, boys and girls divisions.

Fans clearly got the big time match they were waiting for in the championship game and many younger fans rushed onto the court afterwards seeking autographs from their volleyball heros.
