Flags at half-staff in honor of Heftel (March 28)

MEDIA RELEASE

Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered the Hawaii state flag to fly at half-staff at state and county buildings across Hawaii on Sunday, March 28, 2010, from sunrise to sunset, in honor of former U.S. Representative Cec Heftel, who passed away last month.

A celebration of life for the former Congressman, Board of Education member and Hawaii media executive will be held on Sunday at the Hawaii Theatre.

The governor’s proclamation encourages residents to display the state flag at half-staff at their homes and businesses on that day.

Heftel represented Hawaii’s First Congressional District from 1976 to 1986. He also served on the Hawaii Board of Education for one term from 2004 to 2008. Heftel owned KGMB radio and TV in the 1960s and 1970s.
