Police looking for witness to Kona car break-in

This unidentified man is a possible witness to a car break-in.

Big Island police are looking for a man who may be a witness to a car break-in at the Kona Wal-Mart on January 9.

A surveillance camera captured the witness in the area around the time another man was seen near a Maroon Ford Contour at 4 p.m. The 20-year-old driver of the Ford later reported that several items had been removed from his locked car.

The witness may have been driving a white four-door sedan. He is described as Caucasian, between 50 and 60 years old, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10, about 190-230 pounds with a mustache. He was wearing a bluish-purple shirt, light blue surf shorts, a black hat, dark reading glasses and black Crocs brand shoes.

Police ask that anyone with information about the identify of the witness call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
