Parker School hails student achievements

MEDIA RELEASE

Recent Parker School student achievements include:

Zen Michael Kuriyama and Corey Patton won the Shakespeare Recitation Contest and Poetry Out Loud Competition respectively. Zen, who represented Parker School on Oahu two years ago in the Poetry Out Loud, prevailed with a monologue from Twelfth Night, performing Duke Orsino. Corey Patton triumphed over 11 other hopefuls with the poem “Sympathy,” by Paul Laurence Dunbar.

Other competitors at Parker included: Jesse Tarnas and Mario Everett (both events), Annie Sturges (2nd place, POL), Briana Boche, Victoria Andrade-McKeehan, Marit Winborne, Helena Bohannan, Amadeus Swisher, Desiree Ashley, Josh Arehart, and Anna Moritz.

Congratulations to Parker School 8th grader Lysha Matsunobu, who ranked fourth on the island in the MATHCOUNTS middle school math competition Feb. 6 at Kealakehe Intermediate School. This qualified for the state competition March 6 at Iolani School on Oahu. Parker’s team ranked third on the island and was awarded the most improved team. Parker 6th grader Ryan Touchet placed first among 6th grade competitors.

Congratulations to Parker School students, Grant Nair and Blake Aholelei who qualified for the state competition at the District Science Fair. Congratulations also to Marie Jobes who won Best in Show for her category.
