UH-Hilo women 16th at St. Edward’s Invitational

The University of Hawaii at Hilo bettered their first round score by 21 strokes to finish 16th at the St. Edwards Invitational on the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, Texas.

The Vulcans turned in a 351 team score on day two following a 372 in round one.

Tarleton State won the team title with a 620. They were followed by Western Texas CC (636), St. Edwards (648), Sonoma State (652), West Texas A&M (653), Cal State Monterey Bay (655), Angelo State (666), Newman (671), Central Oklahoma (673), Incarnate Word (675), Dallas Baptist (677), Cameron (691), Chico State and St. Mary’s (692), Arkansas-Fort Smith (708), UH Hilo (723) and Southwest Oklahoma State (742),

Nicole Aoki led the Vulcans with 25-over-par, 167 (87-80) and finished in a tie for 35th place on the 6,018-yard course. Dayna Bersamin was in 39th place a stroke back at 168 (87-81). Randi Ono was tied for 58th place (90-85=175) while Jodie Borchert was in 88th place (108-105=213).

West Texas’ Katie Mundy turned in a 6-over-par 148 (78-70) to take medalist honors. Tarleton’s Carla Cooper was in second place a stroke behind while three players were tied for third place.
