The Classic is a collaboration with the County of Hawaii Parks & Recreation. Both games will be this Saturday, February 27th at Kekuaokalani gym in Kona. The Rising Stars game is at 6p and the Senior game at 8p. Admission to the games will be $3 for adults and $1 for students and seniors. All proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island and concessions will be available and benefit the club’s Hoop Dreams Hawaii travel teams. According to one of the organizers and alumnus of the club, Bruce Ferreira, “Our goal in creating this event was to showcase our kids and recognizing them for their hard work and what better place for it to come from than the Boys & Girls Club where I have my own fond memories when I was playing. It is a great combination with the club and the County working together to make this happen. The things they’ll learn from this experience and the club’s programming will hopefully stick with them for life. It is all about life lessons. I ask the whole Big Island to come out and support girls basketball this Saturday in Kona and don’t forget the boys will be coming up in Hilo on March 13th.”

This will not just be a game according to organizers as each participant will be required to participate in Boys & Girls Club leadership, anti-tobacco, anti-alcohol, and anti-drug messaging with our SmartMoves programming. Along with the club’s teen initiative and national branding campaign BE GREAT, the game will be an avenue to influence the future leaders of our community with positive messaging and to give exposure to our student/athletes and encourage younger kids to aspire and dream to BE GREAT !!
