Vulcans split softball games in Phoenix, Arizona

Sarah Weisskopf picked up her third win of the season with a 6-hit, 5-strikeout performance in a 9-3 win over Grand Canyon University in the first game of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Vulcans (5-2 overall, 1-1 in the PacWest) dropped the second game 8-1.

The senior right hander faced 29 batters over seven innings in which she issued a pair of walks.

Sierra Green led the way with a 3-for-3 game at the plate while Aisha Sueda and Bryanna Hardy added two hits and two RBI each.

The Vulcans jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead on a 2-run single by Sueda and an RBI single by Nicole Alconcel then generated three more runs in the fourth.

Hardy opened the sixth with a single, stole second, got to third on a sacrifice then scored on Amanda Tellez’ single.

With runners on second and third, Hardy singled to pick up two RBI in the seventh.

The Antelopes (8-1, 1-1) jumped out in the second game with a six-run first inning behind a pair of walks, a hit batter, an error and two hits.

The Vulcans got one back in third on Kanani Numata’s RBI single.
Green picked up another multiple-hit game with two hits.
