Three brushfires in Hookena Thursday morning (Feb 11)

Firefighters knocked down three separate brushfires Thursday morning (Feb 11) along Hookena Beach Road.

The alarm was raised shortly after 8 a.m. Crews had the fires under control by 10 a.m. and extinguished by 2 p.m.

About 1 acre was scorched by the fires, which flared up 1/2 mile, 1-1/2 miles and 1-3/4 miles down Hookena Beach Road from Mamalahoa Highway.

Crews reported the area was open pasture land, hilly and rocky with few trees.

At least two engines and one county helicopter were on scene. Personnel and equipment from McCandless Ranch and Kealia Ranch also assisted.

Authorities closed Hookena Beach Road while crews battled the blaze.

Ranch personnel will remain on the scene to monitor the fire site.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened, the property is owned by McCandless Ranch. The cause of the fires is undetermined at this time.
