High surf warning for West Hawaii

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning for the Kona-Kohala coastline from noon today until 6 p.m. Thursday.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HONOLULU HAS ISSUED A HIGH SURF WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THURSDAY.

EXPECT SURF ALONG WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND TO REACH HEIGHTS OF 10 TO 15 FEET.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

STAY WELL AWAY FROM THE SHORELINE IN AFFECTED AREAS. DANGEROUS… BATTERING WAVES WILL POUND THE SHORELINE PRODUCING DEADLY RIP CURRENTS AND LOCAL BEACH EROSION.

This is a high surf update for Wednesday January 27th. The National Weather Service has issued a high surf warning for the west facing shores of the Big Island effective noon today though tomorrow evening, Thursday January 28th.

A high surf warning means that wave heights may exceed 12 feet. Coastal residents, beachgoers, and boat owners should be on the alert for increasing surf.
