Kealakekua forest fire update (Jan. 25)

MEDIA RELEASE

Good afternoon this is Fire Chief Darryl Oliveira with a brush fire update for Monday Jan. 25 at 4 p.m.

The conditions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona continue to improve. The entire perimeter or fire break has been mopped up and remains stable and secure.

Few remaining hot spots are well within the fire breaks and pose no threat of spread or embers being blown and possibly causing spot fires. The wind conditions on the fire scene remain light and variable.

Fire crews continue to patrol the fire breaks and extinguish those smoldering fires that can be accessed. Operations are being supported by personnel and equipment from the Hawaii Fire Department, and Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate. Resources on scene today include 1 tanker, 2 brush trucks, and 3 all terrain vehicles.

Again, the conditions on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire continue to improve and crews will remain on scene through the night and continue operations tomorrow.
