Construction worker dies in Pahoa fall

On Jan. 21, 2010, at approximately 7 a.m., Hawaii Fire Department rescue personnel and Puna patrol officers responded to a report of a construction worker who fell from a building under construction near Pāhoa Village.

Jeremy Rose, a 34-year-old Sure Steel employee from Idaho, fell approximately 18 feet, sustaining a severe head injury.

He was transported to Hilo Medical Center and subsequently flown to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead 11:13 a.m. Jan. 22.

The cause of death remains under investigation.
