Kealakekua mauka fire update for Friday (Jan 22)

Good afternoon this is Fire Chief Darryl Oliveira with a brush fire update for Friday, January 22nd at 4:00 p.m.

The fire activity at the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area remains stable and limited to hot spots and smoldering fires well within the fire breaks and perimeter.

Crews were on scene today and continuing the mop-up and extinguishment efforts. Crews will remain on scene throughout the night and operations will resume tomorrow. The weather conditions have been favorable with light winds reported on the fire scene. The operations continue to be supported by personnel and resources of the Hawaii Fire Department, Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate and Forest Solutions as well as commercial resources from various contractors.

Again, the fire operations on the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire in the Kona area remain stable and crews will be on scene throughout the night and mop-up operations to resume tomorrow.
