Read Aloud Program seeking volunteers

MEDIA RELEASE

Do you love to read? Do you enjoy children? Read Aloud America is looking for RAP readers who are enthusiastic about reading and children.

Here is what some of the students who attended RAP (Read Aloud Program) are saying about the program. “I love when the reader reads a book to us as it feels so nice to have somebody read to you.” “I like going to RAP because I read more at home and I read long chapters.” “I like RAP because it’s really cool to read.” “Thank you because RAP is a great experience for me.”

Read Aloud America invites you to come and experience RAP (Read Aloud Program), our early evening family reading program. We are looking for readers for children from Toddlers through 8th grade. Children are divided into groups by age or grade level (K-8) and read to for 45 minutes by volunteer readers every other week at local elementary schools.

Volunteer readers need to attend one training session amd are required to have a background check. We are looking for dependable adults and teenagers who will provide their own transportation to the school where the program is being presented. The volunteer reading assignment is for one semester which includes six RAP sessions.

They must be present 5:45-10 p.m. at each RAP session. We also welcome volunteer readers who can substitute on short notice.

RAP begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 7:45 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to attend the entire session which includes a light dinner.

RAP is scheduled at Kealakehe Elementary and Kahakai Elementary this Spring. The sessions run approximately every other week for six sessions during the spring and fall school semesters.
