Kealakekua and Puna fire update for Tuesday (Jan 19)

Good afternoon this is Fire Chief Darryl Oliveira with a brush fire update for Tuesday January 19 at 4:00 p.m.

The Kealakekua Mauka brush fire operations continue and personnel and resources are focusing on extinguishing hot spots and flare-ups.

The fire perimeter remains secure and all burning activity is limited to smoldering type fires well within the secured area. Resources on scene today include 3 brush trucks, 1 tanker, and 3 all terrain vehicles. Operations continue to be performed with personnel from the Hawaii Fire Department, Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate, and personnel from Forest Solutions.

Again, the fire mop-up operations with the Kealakekua Mauka brush fire are continuing and personnel will be on scene throughout the night.

Earlier today units from the Hawaii Fire Department also responded to a small brush fire in the Puna District and were able to quickly bring it under control and prevent any spread or threat to nearby residences.

The Hawaii Fire Department would like to take this time to remind everyone of the extremely dry conditions and ask for everyones help to prevent possible brush fires.
