Light earthquake in Pahala, no tsunami threat

Hawaii County Civil Defense Message

An earthquake approximately 4.3 magnitude occured 5 mile WNW of Pahala at 1:01 p.m. No damage is reported at this time.

United States Geological Survey reports
A light earthquake occurred at 1:01:35 PM (HST) on Monday, January 18, 2010 .
The magnitude 4.3 event occurred 6 km (4 miles) WNW of Pahala.
The hypocentral depth is 6 km ( 4 miles).

Another earthquake of 3.1 magnitude struck the Puako area earlier at 12:02 p.m. There were no reports of damage from that temblor either. More info here.

LOCATION – ON THE SOUTHEASTERN FLANK OF MAUNA LOA
MAGNITUDE – 3.8

NO TSUNAMI IS EXPECTED. REPEAT. NO TSUNAMI IS EXPECTED.
