Brian Ngo got his fifteen minutes of fame as he handed the University of Hawaii at Hilo an 87-86 Pacific West Conference victory over Brigham Young University-Hawaii in the UHH gymnasium.

The Vulcans are 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the PacWest while the Seasiders are 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the PacWest.

The Vulcans trailed 86-85 after the Seasiders hit the front end of a pair of free throws. With 12 seconds left of the clock, Justin Smith pulled in the missed freethrow and dished off to Ngo. The senior guard took control and put up the game winner with a second left on the clock.

“He’s a senior,” UHH head coach Jeff Law said. “It’s basically his kind of team, his kind of time. I’m glad he had the opportunity and hit the shot.”

Ngo finished with 13 points.

Zachary Wilde led the Vulcans with 23 points on 11 of 17 shooting from the field.

Smith tallied 16 points and nine rebounds while Andrew Gipson added 16.

The UH-Hilo women also won their game against BYU-Hawaii
