DUI stats for the week of Jan 4-10

During the week of January 4, 2010, through January 10, 2010, Big Island police arrested 38 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 51 DUI arrests compared with 37 during the same period last year, an increase of 37.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 22 major accidents so far this year compared with 50 during the same period last year, a decrease of 56.0 percent.

So far this year, there were three traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with one during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
