The University of Hawaii at Hilo beat Brigham Young University-Hawaii 71-52 in a non-conference game in the Konawaena Gym in Kealakekua, Hawaii.
The Vulcans improved to 3-7 while the Seasiders are 3-5.
Hina Kimitete led the Vulcans with 20 points and seven assists. Kayce Kirihara and Hotia Vaaimamao added 10 each.
“I really didn’t know what to expect coming into this game because we’ve been playing on the road and have had our ups and downs,†said UHH head coach Daphne Honma. “Night-to-night different teams have shown up.
“Tonight I was real happy with the energy they played with, the focus, they talked on defense. They did a lot of good things.â€
The Vulcans dished out a season-high 18 assists with 10 players contributing. From the field, they were 26 of 40 (65 percent) and 6 of 13 (46.2 percent) from 3-point range.
