Police warn of telephone lottery scam

MEDIA RELEASE

Big Island police are warning the public about a telephone lottery scam.

A North Kohala woman reported that she received several phone calls in the last two to three weeks claiming she had won lotteries ranging from $50,000 to $6 million. The caller told her that in order to receive her prize, she was required to send $500 to cover taxes.

Police caution the public to beware of unusual requests for money.
