Future celebrities come out to shine at Waikoloa School “Brown Bags to Stardom”

Future superstars are in the spotlight Friday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m. for OC16 TV’s “Brown Bags to Stardom” talent show. Sponsored by Waikoloa’s School Parent Teacher Student Association, Student Council and Primary School Adjustment Program (PSAP), “Brown Bags” is open to the public and admission is free (donations welcome).

Executive Director Johnny Kai, of Johnny Kai Productions and the Music Foundation of Hawaii created the “Brown Bags” concept in 1980. The highly-successful music program for Hawaii kids ran for 20 years, and was revived in 2006. Kai will attend the Waikoloa show, starring about 20 impressively-talented elementary and middle school students from West Hawaii.

OC 16 will tape the production, to be aired later this month for a week-long showing. There is still time for local businesses and individuals who would like to advertise on “Brown Bags” for a minimal cost. Contact Johnnykai@aol.com.

Two winners will advance to the state finals in Honolulu’s Neil Blaisdell Arena, and each receive a $100 scholarship from PTSA and PSAP to help with travel expenses. Grand Prize is a $25,000 “Pimped My Ride” Chevy Blazer; other prizes include $500 cash awards, trophies and sponsored gifts.

Waikoloa PTSA Event Coordinator Julie Taylor said, “We are most honored to be hosting this wonderful event and to allow our young keiki to display their awesome talents! Please come out and cheer on the kids who have worked so hard for their chance to shine onstage.”
