The final day of the St. Joseph/Waiakea Boys Basketball Tournament

In the final game of the night in the Blue Division, it was a match up between the Waiakea Warriors and the Waimea Mehehunes(Kauai). The visiting Waimea team came out strong in the first period forcing many Waiakea turnovers. Some timely Menehune scoring gave Waimea an 8-5 lead at the end of the first period. In the second half Waiakea upped their defense to turn the tables on Waimea and converted Menehune turnovers into easy baskets. Waiakea went into the locker room with a 13-11 half-time lead.

Waiakea came out strong in the second half playing tough on defense while displaying a well balanced offense. The visiting Mehehunes could not muster much of an offense against the Warriors’ defense, which caused many turnovers that converted to easy lay-ups. Waiakea outscored Waimea 27-7 in the second half. The high scorers for Waiakea were Clayton Morante (10) and Isaak Janado (9), and for Waimea, Micah Rita (6) and VJ Carineo (6).
