…HIGH SURF WARNING FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF NIIHAU KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI AND MAUI…

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR EAST FACING SHORES OF OAHU AND FOR THE NORTHEAST AND WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND…

.OVERVIEW…THE NORTHWEST SWELL WILL CONTINUE DECREASING THROUGH TODAY…BUT SURF IS VERY LARGE AND DANGEROUS ALONG EXPOSED NORTH AND WEST SHORES. THE EAST FACING SHORES OF SOME OF THE ISLANDS… AND THE WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND…ARE FORECAST TO BE AT ADVISORY SIZE.

…HIGH SURF WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THIS EVENING…

SURF WILL BE 20 TO 25 FEET WITH OCCASIONALLY BIGGER SETS ON OUTER REEFS THIS MORNING AND SLOWLY LOWERING THROUGH THE DAY. SURF ALONG WEST FACING SHORES WILL BE 12 TO 20 FEET AND ALSO LOWERING.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A HIGH SURF WARNING MEANS THAT DANGEROUS…BATTERING WAVES WILL POUND THE SHORELINE…PRODUCING VERY DANGEROUS SWIMMING CONDITIONS AND DEADLY RIP CURRENTS.

PEOPLE GOING NEAR THE BEACH TO WATCH THE HIGH SURF ARE ADVISED TO REMAIN FAR AWAY FROM THE WATER. WAVES CAN SUDDENLY WASH UP ONTO PREVIOUSLY DRY AREAS. FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS FROM WATER SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS.
