These grills are made out of the same steel as the burners. The cavity of the grill appears to be made out of a cheaper quality of steel than the burner. Rot is not causing the burners to separate the internal temp is too high for the quality of steel. The entire guts of the grill is made with cheap China steel, the mfg. will not return my calls. Be careful and keep this grill away from covered areas. We have had six or seven burnouts the entire grill in flames. My burners have six-inch gaps in them and fixing the burners, recall, is a band-aid on the grill. Dump it and hope Lowe's will give you a replacement. They `are working with me and I will give updates. I spent 453 USD on a Chinese fireball. Good Luck!!
I agree with john, Lowes should be stand up to the plate and recall the entire assy not just the burners and lids. I tried to work within the system and applied for replacement parts on my SLG2008A, when the parts came there are absolutely no information with them. The burners are different than the original. Although they feel a little more sturdy, the series of holes that used to be on the top of the burner tube is now on the bottom. I don't know if this is right or wrong and am afraid to install them. Oh by the way, anyone taking on this challenge should be prepared to drill out the screws holding the old burners on as they have corroded and the heads will immediately strip out. Also be careful of the mount ledge for the burners, in less than two years mine are completely gone and I will take quite an effort to replace. COME ON LOWES, IF THIS WERE HOME DEPOT WE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN NEW UNITS.
