Kaiwi-Luhia intersection in Kona to become a four-way stop

MEDIA RELEASE

The intersection of Kaiwi Street and Luhia Street in Kailua-Kona will be converted to an all-way stop by the Department of Public Works on Friday, November 20.

A traffic study confirmed the volume of motorists approaching the intersection from Luhia Street and difficulty for them to turn onto Kaiwi Street justify a four-way stop.

Currently, the intersection is a two-way stop with motorists on Luhia Street required to stop. Once stop signs are installed on Kaiwi Street, all motorists shall be required to stop before proceeding through the intersection. Motorists are reminded to follow the rules of the road when driving this intersection. If vehicles approach the intersection at the same time, right of way is to the vehicle on the right.

Signs alerting motorists of the change will be posted at the intersection this week.
