The County Council postponed a vote Wednesday on Bill 132, which amends the land sale process.

The council opted not to vote on the first of two readings until the full council is in attendance. Puna Councilwoman is on her honeymoon and was unavailable for Wednesday’s meeting.

The bill amends the County Code for certain county land transactions.

It requires approval by the council for land transactions for real property that is 10  acres or larger, or that is appraised at $500,000 or more.

The Finance Director would be directed to prepare a resolution that includes the final bid price, intended use of the property and the name of the prospective buyer.

Property obtained by the county through foreclosure due to non-payment of taxes would be exempt.

The bill is widely seen as a move by Hamakua Councilman Dominic Yagong to thwart Mayor Billy Kenoi administration’s proposal to sell Hamakua land to balance the budget. The bill, however, does not specifically mention the Hamakua lands.
