Prelude Event

Sunday, Nov. 1

Little Miss Kona Coffee Berry Pageant – 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Hotel King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel

Kona’s young lovely ladies competing in the Miss Kona Coffee Outstanding Teen age group become eligible to compete on the state level if named the winner. Age divisions: Little Miss Pea Berry ages 4-6; Little Miss Coffee Berry ages 7-9; Young Miss Kona Coffee ages 10-12 and Miss Outstanding Teen ages 13-17. For inquiries contact 936-6111 or 960-3094.

Kona Coffee Aloha Makahiki Concert – 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Makaeo County Pavilion

Hula legend Poni Kamauu joins Mika Keale Goto and her halau from Japan. Following the Hula performance. Special Hawaiian music performed by Martin Pahinui, Aaron Mahi, Kekoa Kaluhiwa and Stephen Akana.

Friday, Nov. 6

New Waves at NELHA – 10 a.m. – Hawaii Gateway Energy Center

Concluding three educational aquaculture tours, culinary students prepare a Hawaiian gourmet feast. Ticket $100 per person includes tours, gourmet luncheon and entertainment. For reservations and details: 329-8073

International Lantern Parade  – 6:30 p.m.  – Alii Drive, Kailua Pier to Hale Halawai

Lanterns light the evening stroll to celebrate Kona’s heritage with groups in ethnic costumes.

Cultural Program – 7:30 p.m. – Hale Halawai

An evening of multi-ethnic entertainment, foods and coffee tastings following the parade. Colorful Bon dance gets everyone on their feet!

Saturday, Nov. 7

Holualoa Village Coffee Tasting & Art Stroll – 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

A collection of boutique art galleries pair with tastings of three dozen estate label Kona coffees. Talk story with local farmers while tasting their gourmet coffees.

Children’s Kona Coffee Quilting Class – 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Quilt Passions

Free introductory class for ages 8 to 12 years. Free class includes materials and instruction. Class size limited to 20. Call to reserve space at 808-329-7475.

Ueshima Coffee (UCC Hawaii) Corp. 39th Miss Kona Coffee Scholarship Pageant – 6:30 p.m. No-host cocktails; 7:30 p.m. Pageant – Hapuna Prince Beach Hotel

Ever attempted to pick coffee? Test your skills in a timed competition for beginners and masters. From the slopes of this picture perfect farm, watch the master pickers of astonishing speed and skill. Cash prizes, entertainment and refreshments.

KTA Super Stores Kona Coffee Recipe Contest/Big Island Showcase – 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. – Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa Convention Center

Amateurs, culinary students, keiki and professionals present their favorite entrée and dessert recipes featuring 100% Kona coffee and other Hawaii island products. Displays and samples of Hawaii island products, cooking demonstration and door prizes. The public is invited to taste contestant’s recipes following the award presentation.

Monday, Nov. 9

Kona Coffee farms compete is the most prestigious event that will name the finest Kona coffee in the state. Winners will advance to the final round.

Gevalia Kona Coffee Art Exhibit – 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Keauhou Beach Resort

The romance of the Kona coffee lifestyle is depicted in artwork that is offered for sale by local artists. A People’s Choice award invites the public for their participation by voting for their favorite pieces.

Kona Coffee Label & Website Competition – 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Keauhou Beach Resort

This competition awards unique, creative marketing that generate sales for Kona coffee farmers. Cash prizes and awards given in both categories.

Kona Coffee Quilt Contest & Show – 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Keauhou Beach Resort

Creatively interpret Kona coffee through the art of quilt making.

A panel of international judges will name the best Kona coffee in the state concluding today’s final cupping.

Gevalia Kona Coffee Art Exhibit – 9 a.m. –  noon – Keauhou Beach Resort

Awards and prizes are given to local artists whose work best represents the Kona coffee lifestyle. People’s Choice award to be announced.

Kona Coffee Label & Website Competition – 9 a.m. to Noon – Keauhou Beach Resort

The best label and website artwork winners will be named at the awards ceremony.
