MEDIA RELEASE

Fourth and fifth grade students at Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) will present Vacation on Mars, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9. The musical performance, which is free and open to the public, will be held at Gates Performing Arts Center on the school’s Upper Campus.

Vacation on Mars is being presented in conjunction with the students’ unit on the solar system. Students have customized the script based on their own research.

Dad has promised the kids a trip to Mars, but the Bargain Basement Tour Company doesn’t quite have it all together. Instead, the family (including grandpa and the dog, Gus) all end up touring the entire solar system! There are stowaways on board, better known as joke-telling and very poetic cockroaches. The sun holds center stage, but the moon and all the planets get in on the action. Jupiter boasts of his many moons and Venus thinks she’s so hot. Mercury moves so fast you might miss him and Pluto is having an identity crisis after having his category changed from a major planet to a dwarf planet. Cinch up your asteroid belt and join the students on this interplanetary tour!

This is the first of a series of musical productions by HPA’s Lower School students. The second and third grade classes will present the next show, The Twelve Days of Christmas, at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, December 4.
