Thursday morning stove fire in Orchidland Estates

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 7:47 a.m. alarm Thursday (Sept 24) for a fire in Orchidland Estates. The fire was at a single family residence occupied by two people.

Upon arrival crews found an electric stovetop smoking. The resident said she turned-off the electrical breaker but the stovetop continued emitting smoke and was starting to burn a countertop area.

Fire crews used a Halligan tool to remove the stovetop and extinguished the fire with faucet water. The room was cleared of smoke and checked with a heat sensor gun to confirm that the fire was out. The occupants were advised to contact an electrician before turning the power back on.

There were no injuries and damage estimated to be $500.
