UH-Hilo plays to a draw with HPU in soccer

At Atherton Field, the HPU women’s soccer team played to a scoreless double overtime draw with UH-Hilo Sunday (Sept 13). The Sea Warriors move to 2-1-1 while the Vulcans are now 0-4-1.

The Sea Warriors were dominant on the afternoon, outshooting UH-Hilo 19-9 but unable to find the back of the net through regulation and two overtimes.

Carriane Makino posted three saves in goal for HPU, while UHH keeper Shanna Brown recorded seven saves.

HPU’s best opportunity occurred in the first half. Liana Gualdarama found herself open with the ball in the UHH penalty area, but her shot bounced off the crossbar and was cleared off the line.

Dyanne Anderson was active up front for the Sea Warriors, recording four shots to lead all players.

HPU and UH-Hilo meet again next Saturday, September 19 in Hilo. The match will be the PacWest opener for both teams, and is set to kickoff at 3:00 p.m.
