Meeting slated on Keei Village management plan

Over the past year, Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate (KS/BE) has been developing a management plan for its properties in and around Keei Village on Kealakekua Bay in South Kona.

KS/BE has held a series of community meetings to solicit input from the local residents. Some of the actions proposed at those meetings — such as closing or putting a gate on the existing Keei Beach Road and limiting or prohibiting public parking along the shoreline at Keei — would severely threaten access to the public shoreline at Keei by members of the wider community of Kona and West Hawaii.

KS/BE will hold a final meeting on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 9:30 a.m. in the Honaunau Elementary School Cafeteria, to present the plan it has formulated for Keei.

Since this proposed management plan could have serious consequences for access to the shoreline at Keei by surfers, swimmers, fishermen, divers, and other ocean lovers, it is important that anyone who is concerned with protecting public access to the shoreline in Hawaii attend this meeting and become informed.

    Aloha,

The building in front of Keei beach…how do I inquire about renting the hall for a family reunion? The reunion is not until 2017. Is it open to Hawaii island residents to camp there for one week…Please respond or could ya’ll please send information on that particular property…
