DUI stats for the week of August 25-31

During the week of August 25, 2009, through August 31, 2009, Big Island police arrested 32 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 915 DUI arrests compared with 925 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,043 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,201 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.2 percent.

So far this year, there were 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 16 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12.5 percent.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.

    They are just under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Not all of them can be charge of attempted murder offense.
