The University of Hawaii at Hilo stumbled at first then settled into an up-and-down night as they held on for a 3-2 victory over Adelphi University in McCabe Gym in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Set scores were 18-25, 25-22, 25-23, 18-25 and 15-9.
“We played very hot and cold,” UHH volleyball coach Bruce Atkinson said. “We struggled with serve receive in keeping it forward. That affected the connection between Katie [Swenson] and the hitters.”
In her first match as a Vulcan, Swenson tallied 55 assists while her hitters tallied 63 kills on 151 attempts with 31 errors for a .212 attack percentage.
Fabiane Seben and Josimara Pinheiro tallied 12 kills each while Morgan Bonney andKawena Cubi-Otineru had 11 each. Leilani Ramsey recorded 10 kills.
“We haven’t been pushed,” Atkinson said. “It was definitely a test that we needed.”
Pinheiro, Laura Rodriguez and Lauren Tonokawa had 13 digs each while Seben tallied nine total blocks – two solos and seven assists.
