Sweepstakes scam reported by police

MEDIA RELEASE

The Hawai’i Police Department is warning the public about a mail scam claiming the recipient has won money in a sweepstakes.

A Hilo man received a letter claiming to be from “Reddy Raw” that said the man had won $45,500. Included was a bogus check for $3,350 supposedly for use toward required fees. The recipient was told to call a phone number for instructions on how to arrange for the final payment.

Police have confirmed that the letter is a scam and advise the public to be leery of any letter, phone call or e-mail message that claims the recipient has won a large prize.

My Fiance got one in the mail yesterday and it is a scam . Per Reddy Raw it was an ex employee who sent out all of the letters and the checks. DO NOT CASH THE CHECK. Take it to your local authority and report this scam.
