School starts Monday (Aug 3), police urge caution on one-way traffic

Big Island police are reminding Hilo motorists that one-way traffic patterns on portions of Waiānuenue Avenue and Kapi’olani Street will take effect on Monday morning, August 3, as schools open for the fall semester.

From 7:15 to 8 a.m. on school days, traffic on Waiānuenue Avenue between Komohana Street and Kamehameha Avenue is one-way in the makai direction. During the same hours, traffic along Kapi’olani Street between Waiānuenue Avenue and Haili Street is one-way in the Puna direction.

Police are reminding all motorists to be on the lookout for students walking to and from schools island wide.
