Tuesday (July 28) fire/rescue crews responded to a 2:40 p.m. alarm for a structure fire at 1644 Alu Street in Waiakea.

Occupants of the home were alerted by the arrival of friend who found heavy smoke and the stove on fire. They then used blankets and water from a nearby laundry area to douse the blaze. The fire was out before fire/rescue crews arrived on scene.

The occupants of the home believe that a pot left unattended on the stove by someone who left the house earlier started the fire. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen area. Damage to the structure was estimated at $15,000. There were no injuries and no roadways were blocked during the fire.
