DUI stats for the week of July 21-27 on the Big Island

During the week of July 21, 2009, through July 27, 2009, Big Island police arrested 15 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 789 DUI arrests compared with 803 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 907 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,031 during the same period last year, a decrease of 12 percent.

So far this year, there were 14 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 14 during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
