Four county mayors to attend United Way benefit

MEDIA RELEASE

For the first time in the 16-year history of the event, the annual Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament Reception and Dinner, a benefit for the Hawaii Island United Way, will be attended by all four of Hawaii’s county mayors.

Tickets will be available through July 8

Joining Hawaii County Mayor Billy Kenoi for the weekend event will be Kauai County Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Honolulu County Mayor Mufi Hannemann, and Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares.

The dinner and reception is 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows. Dinner tickets are $125.

The golf tournament will be held at the Francis H. Ii Brown South course on Saturday, July 11.

“We are impressed with and sincerely appreciate the leadership that Mayor Billy Kenoi continues to demonstrate,” said Darla DeVille, president of the Hawaii Island United Way. “His genuine concern and support for organizations that help to build stronger communities are evident in his actions and words.”

The presence of all four mayors acknowledges the importance each United Way Agency in the state plays in their respective counties, De Ville said.

Although there are five United Way agencies statewide, each with its own board of directors and mission, all share the common goal of striving to make a positive difference in bettering the lives of individuals and families in our communities.

Traditionally, the dinner has been for golf participants only. This year the Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament Committee opened the reception to the general public.

Entertainment will be provided at the dinner by The Lim Family.

The Signature Event weekend also includes complimentary golf Friday at Hualalai Resort and “An Evening in Paradise,” a food and wine extravaganza Saturday evening with entertainment by Grammy Award winners Charles Brotman and Charlie Recaido.

The Mayor’s Golf Cup committee is co-chaired by Warren Lee, Ann Ebesuno and Charles Erskine.
