DUI stats for the week of June 16-22

During the week of June 16, 2009, through June 22, 2009, Big Island police arrested 40 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 664 DUI arrests compared with 665 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 768 major accidents so far this year compared with 864 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.1 percent.

So far this year, there were 12 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 12 during the same period last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
