Kailua Village stroll, palace concert on tap for Sunday

Be sure to include Kokua Kailua Hulihee Palace Concert and Village Stroll on Sunday, June 14 in the list of activities planned for the Kamehameha Day weekend. During Kokua Kailua Alii Drive is conveniently converted into a pedestrian walkway from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Enjoy a late lunch or early dinner at nearby restaurants. Inquire with restaurants and merchants about special kamaaina pricing since most Kailua Village merchants participate in the monthly program.

As part of Kokua Kailua’s many events, enter to win a Village Gift Basket worth up to $150. Entry forms are available on June 14 at the musician stations and the drawing is held at Emma’s Square at 5:45 p.m.

June’s free Hawaiian music concert on the Palace’s South Lawn, which begins at 4 p.m., will honor Kamehameha I. Concert goers are reminded to bring their own beach mat or chair. A free chair check conveniently located across from the palace at Emma’s Square means pre and post concert hands-free shopping and dining in the Village.

Kokua Kailua is sponsored by the Kailua Village Business Improvement District, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce, Destination Kona Coast, Kailua Village Merchants Association, Hulihee Palace and Pacific Radio Group. The program is designed to rally support for merchants and restaurants and to remind residents to shop, dine and buy local.

The next Kokua Kailua Hulihee Palace Concert and Village Stroll date is Sunday, July 26, 2009.

Volunteers are needed to assist with closing and re-opening the road. If you are able to assist so that these events can continue, please contact Marie Aguilar at 334-0562.
