Hurricane preparedness workshops in Hilo, Kona


NOAA’s Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) is conducting two free hurricane preparedness workshops on the Big Island

The workshops are open to the public.  

Hurricane experts will announce the outlook for this year’s season, provide hurricane facts and figures, discuss CPHC products available to the public and how to get them, touch on the science involved in forecasting and tracking hurricanes, and how to protect homes and property.  

Jim Weyman, CPHC director, and Ray Tanabe, CPHC warning coordination meteorologist, also will take questions.  

* Hilo Workshop: 5-6:30 p.m., Monday, June 15 at NOAA National Ocean Service Mokupapapa Discovery Center, 308 Kamehameha Avenue, Suite 203

* Kona Workshop: 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 16 at Konawaena Elementary School Cafeteria, 81-901 Onouli Road., Kealakekua
