A man apparently drowned and his teenage daughter was injured Sunday evening when their Zodiac capsized off Keauhou in rough seas, the Fire Department reported. The accident happened off-shore Manukai Street.

Crews were alerted shortly after 6 p.m. that the semi-rigid, inflatable Zodiac capsized in the rough shore break.

Firefighters reported they found the man floating face down and the girl in severe distress with head injuries.

A man on his personal watercraft brought the father to shore while firefighters brought the girl to Keauhou Pier.

Identity of the victims was not released Sunday night.

Both county helicopters assisted in the rescue and recovery.

The National Weather Service had issued a high surf advisory for the Big Island until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
