Colorado visitor drowns at Kahaluu Beach Park Friday

A man apparently drowned Friday (May 29) at Kahalu’u Beach Park.

Responding to a 3:43 p.m. call, Kona police officers learned that a lifeguard at the park saw a swimmer in distress about 50 yards off shore. The lifeguard brought the man to shore and rescue personnel attempted to revive him. The man was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m.

The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Michael Edward Goodman. He was visiting from Colorado.

Police do not suspect foul play. They have initiated a coroner’s inquest case and are awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.
