Travel Channel showcases island’s ‘Great Weekends’

MEDIA RELEASE

Viewers tuning into the Travel Channel’s newest series “Samantha Brown’s Great Weekends” this weekend might see some scenes they recognize.

The show, 7 p.m. (Hawaii time) Saturday, May 23, includes segments with Brown at the summit of Mauna Kea with Hawaii Forest & Trail, indulging at the Kona Village luau, and competing in a Kona Coffee Picking Contest during the annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival.

In “Great Weekends,” Brown’s latest series on the Travel Channel, the host takes viewers around the world to her favorite places, go-to hotels, restaurants and activities in each place she visits.

While on the Big Island, Hawaii Forest & Trail escorted Brown to stargaze atop Mauna Kea.

The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival hosted Brown during the annual festival’s Coffee Picking Contest as she attempted to best more experienced pickers.

And Kona Village Resort welcomed Brown and her film crew to the island’s longest running luau, its Ahaaina, luau dinner and show.

“The Travel Channel is an ideal way to showcase the Big Island’s vast beauty and diversity,” said Kona Village Resort general manager Ulrich Krauer. “We were happy to be included in ‘Great Weekends’ along with Hawaii Forest & Trail and the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival. I’m sure I speak for all visitor-related businesses on island when I say the show could not be airing at a better time.”

Launched in February 1987, the Travel Channel is the only television network devoted exclusively to travel entertainment. The Travel Channel is a dedicated and trusted window on the world, bringing knowledge, insight and information to a community of people who want to experience their world and satisfy their curiosity.
